Mark and Patty Cotter Make an Unexpected Gift Through Their IRA

At 鶹, we talk a lot about legacyhow each student, alumnus, donor, and friend leaves a mark on this place and its future. But sometimes, the most meaningful legacies begin quietly, through a moment of reflection, a shared memory, and a heartfelt decision to give back.

This spring, Mark and Patty Cotter, proud Cleary alumni, reached out after consistently receiving the Alumni News and Cleary Insider. They told us how much they appreciated feeling looped innot just on university news, but on the heart of what happening here: students transforming their lives, donors lighting the path, and alumni building the future they once dreamed about in our classrooms.

Motivated by the stories they readand inspired to actthe Cotters made a generous contribution to Cleary directly from their IRA, taking advantage of the IRS provision that allows individuals age 70½ or older to make tax-free charitable distributions.

Mark put it simply: We saw a way to give that made smart financial senseand felt deeply personal.

Their gift is already at work, supporting scholarships for students who, like Mark once was, are driven to succeed but need a hand up to get there. It a beautiful reminder that giving isnt just about writing a checkit about vision, timing, and trust in a mission that matters.

Were honored to be part of the Cotters storyand grateful that theyre now part of ours in an even deeper way.

If youve ever considered making a gift through your IRA, know that it not just possibleit powerful. And wed be glad to help.

Together, we are shaping futures. Just like the Cotters.
